One of two concurrently built large office towers at the confluence of the Chicago River, River Point was one of the tallest pure office structures Adjustable has built at over 700 feet. Vertical shortening analysis was submitted and reviewed in real-time with Structural Engineer Magnusson Klemencic and Associates to ensure anticipated shortening was in line with actual. The structural cast in place concrete core was placed in two three-day lifts coordination with the structural steel contractor’s six-day tier. Adjustable’s scope included architectural exposed aggregate stairs at the north and south bustles. One of the most unique challenges of the concrete scope included setting structural steel tension plates at various points. Adjustable worked with core formwork supplier CCS and rebar installer Ambar to develop a system to rapidly install tension plates from above without major impact to schedule. Higher than usual floor finishes for future tennants were required by the client, and Adjustable delivered with flatness numbers in excess of FF40.
